Mathilde and Rémi

Some of our creations leave the Brand be part of stories that extend far beyond Paris. Today, we’re sharing the story of Rémi and Mathilde, whose engagement unfolded against the backdrop of Namibia’s landscapes, accompanied by a green sapphire ring.

Rémi had decided to propose during their road trip in Namibia. He didn't know exactly where or how yet, but he knew this trip would be the right time.

Five months before their departure, he began looking at engagement rings, initially out of simple curiosity. His initial search led him to fairly classic designs, but as he read more, his preferences changed. He wanted to find a ring that was more personal, more delicate—a design that truly reflected Mathilde’s personality.

Very quickly, the number of searches increases, ideas begin to blend, and criteria evolve.

Then one day, a Myrtille Beck design found its way into her life.

Rémi discovers the Brand designs—their sleek lines, their softness, and their delicacy. Several styles catch his eye. He selects a few and makes an appointment at the store.

On the day of the appointment, the rings he had picked out were already waiting for him on a small tray. Malicia, one of our consultants, took the time to guide him and show him each design. He looked at them, compared them, and imagined Mathilde wearing them. But none of them really gave him that sense of “this is the one” he had been hoping for.

Until she was presented with a ring set with a green sapphire.

And that much is obvious.

Rémi knows it: the Iris S ring set with a green sapphire. This will be the one. The one he’ll take with him, a few days later, to the other side of the world.

On the day of departure, tension is running high at the airport. Rémi has never traveled with a ring hidden in his luggage and doesn’t know how it might show up on the scanner. He walks through the security gate without any trouble, but his suitcase is set aside for inspection. The customs officer looks at his screen, glances at Rémi, then hands him back his suitcase without even asking to open it.

Did he see the ring? Rémi will never know. But the secret, for its part, is still well kept.

The first few days in Namibia fly by as we take in the vast, luminous, almost surreal landscapes. The trip gradually finds its rhythm, with long drives, new discoveries, and moments that seem to stand still.

One evening, as they were on their way to a neighboring village to share a meal, a thunderstorm rumbled in the distance. Mathilde insisted on bringing their rain jackets. Rémi tried to convince her it wasn’t necessary, but she wouldn’t budge. The ring was hidden in the pocket of hers. So he offered to carry the bag himself. He kept it carefully tucked under his arm the entire evening.

Then the big day arrives, without him really having planned for it.

Rémi and Mathilde have been driving for several hours, through a vast landscape. He had imagined proposing on a dune, near the sea, perhaps surrounded by animals, against a spectacular backdrop. But not here. Not on the side of a road, in the middle of nowhere.

And yet, something tells him that now is the time.

He stops, pretending he wants to take a picture of the scenery. He asks Mathilde to step away for a moment with the camera, then walks over to the trunk to retrieve the ring.

But that very morning, Mathilde had put everything away.

The K-Way jackets have been moved. With his heart pounding, Rémi searches for what seems like an endless few minutes. Finally, he finds the box.

When Mathilde comes back to him, he drops to one knee.

From the look in her eyes, Rémi could tell that she realized what was happening, though she hadn’t really expected it. The speech he had prepared faded from his mind. Carried away by the emotion of the moment, he began to speak off the cuff.

Around them, nothing else exists. Not the road, not the landscape, not the rest of the world.

There are moments we spend a long time preparing for, only to have them unfold differently in the end. That proposal found its way in the heart of Namibia, amid the vastness of an unexpected landscape, with a green sapphire ring.

The rest of the journey will then take on a whole new meaning—that of early dreams of marriage, of the plans the two of you imagine together….
